The owner

After completing University degrees in The Fine Arts and Education bonsai professional Adam Jones arranged to build his cultural appreciation and world knowledge by spending a number of years teaching English in various countries throughout Asia. During those years he fell in love with the Japanese culture, particularly bonsai. After completing a five-year apprenticeship at one of the most renowned bonsai gardens in Japan, Mansei-En, located in the Omiya Bonsai-cho, Adam received certification as a bonsai professional from the Nippon Bonsai Association.

The house

The gardens of Tree House Bonsai are centered around the traditional architecture of the main living quarters. The calming and subdued natural beauty of this environment is a true source of inspiration for all visitors. Utilizing the experience of over a decade of classroom education and the skills gained during his time at Mansei-En, Adam and Tree House Bonsai are excited to offer a range of tutorials, workshops, and classes for visitors to build their knowledge of all aspects of the art of bonsai.

The property

Tree House Bonsai, the only Western-owned bonsai garden in Japan is situated on over three acres of beautiful cedar and bamboo woodlands in Ami-Machi, Ibaraki near the world famous Ushiku Daibutsu. Easily accessible to any visitor, Tree House Bonsai is a short 35 minute drive from Narita Airport and only an hour train ride from downtown Tokyo.
